Who needs to complete visa checkpoints?
All continuing students on a Student visa (formerly Tier 4) who have received a visa checkpoint email from the Immigration Team are required to complete the process.
You do not need to complete a checkpoint if you have only recently enrolled on a new course, or if you are studying under a different type of visa (e.g. a Dependant visa)..
Step 1
- When the online visa checkpoint is open, visit the campus and log in to MyHud using a PC on campus or a mobile device while connected to Eduroam. For guidance, see How to connect to University's WiFi (Eduroam).
- Click on the “International” tab (or select it from the menu if using a mobile device).
- On the next page, click the “Visa Checkpoint Status” tab.
- On the following screen, tick the box that says:
“I am re-registering for this term at the University of Huddersfield”,
then click Submit or Save. - Sponsored students only:
If you are a sponsored student (i.e. your government, embassy, or an international company pays your tuition fees), you should also tick the following box:
“By ticking this box you give consent to the University sharing the information referred to above with your sponsor.”
Step 2
- After completing the Visa Checkpoint, you must also check – and, if necessary, update – your UK address and contact information in the “My Details” section.
Step 3
-
Only if you have obtained a new passport or visa, since your last visa checkpoint, please email scanned copies or clear photos of the new documents to: VisaCheckpoint@hud.ac.uk
Possible issues with completing the Online Visa Checkpoint
-
Some students are unable to complete the online visa checkpoint because their MyHud access is blocked, for example due to non-payment of fees.
-
Some students, particularly research students, may experience difficulties with the online visa checkpoint portal due to a mismatch between their full name and their student email address following a name change after enrolment. Taught students are generally unaffected, as their email addresses are based on their student number (e.g. u1234567@unimail.hud.ac.uk). However, research students’ email addresses are name-based, so any post-enrolment changes to their first, middle, or surname may cause issues accessing the checkpoint system.
If you do encounter an issue, please email VisaCheckpoint@hud.ac.uk for assistance.
Please note
Failure to complete the Visa Checkpoints could affect your studies at the University and your University as well as your visa status. See our website for more information about visa checkpoints, including FAQs.
Email all checkpoint related questions to VisaCheckpoint@hud.ac.uk or attend an online Immigration Drop-in Session.
