Huddersfield Business School provides a range of high quality support for its staff, along with incentives to further advance the expansion of the School’s research and impact activities.

Research Funding

Academic staff may apply for School-level funding to enable them to carry out research at the cutting edge of relevant and contemporary topics affecting the business world. Additionally, the University Research Fund is available to provide resources to support research that helps to meet the University’s ambitious targets for achievement in research.

A Home for Early Career Researchers

Huddersfield Business School has a thriving and dynamic academic community and provides a home for many Early Career Researchers beginning their professional journey. Comprehensive line management structures, effective mentoring schemes, and a research culture that seeks to support, develop and enhance the research skills and outputs of academics who are just starting out mean that the School fosters an excellent environment in which to establish an academic career.

Incentives for Quality Research

School staff are supported and incentivised to produce the highest quality research through the ‘Points Mean Pounds’ scheme, which provides monetary awards, paid into individual academics’ research funds. These are awarded upon the submission of journal articles and are calculated based on the quality and rating of the publishing journal. Huddersfield Business School strives to consistently produce research of the highest quality and reach and maintain a global reputation for excellence. Through schemes like PMP, academics are both rewarded for their hard work, and are provided with the resources to further develop their research portfolio.

Commitment to Supporting Researchers

The University holds the European Commission’s HR Excellence in Research Award. The award recognises the systems and practices the institution has in place to support researchers’ career and professional development in line with the national Research Concordat, supporting the additional aim of achieving research excellence. This means that the University as a whole has been recognised for the quality of support offered to academics.
