Bringing your family

Some students can also have family (i.e. spouse or partner and/or children) with them in the UK as “Dependants”.  See UKCISA website to check if your dependants are able to come to the UK on a Dependant visa.

How to apply? Dependant visa from overseas

If your dependants are applying from outside the UK (Entry Clearance), they must apply online.

In most countries, as part of the online application an appointment is booked to attend the visa application centre to enrol biometrics (have your fingerprints and facial image taken) and submit supporting documents.

If your dependants’ application is successful, a vignette (sticker) will be placed in their passport. They will have to enter the UK within that period stated on the vignette. Your dependants will also receive a decision letter that contains important information about their Biometric Residence Permit (BRP).The BRP card will state the full duration of their visa. They must bring this letter with them to the UK.

Your dependants will also be required to provide supporting documents with their visa application. Any documents not in English must be accompanied by official certified translations.

Your dependants must collect their BRP from a UK Post Office. The location of the Post Office will be determined by the correspondence address you use in their visa application. They can also collect the BRP from the Huddersfield Post Office – see address and postcode below:
