Sports courses

When it comes to studying, we have plenty of sport-related courses available to students. Using the latest equipment and facilities, including our Gait Analysis Lab, Sports Hall and sports equipment, you can learn about physiology, biomechanics, teaching and coaching, psychology and much more.  

The range of courses we offer include Sport and Exercise Science; Sport, Exercise and Nutrition and Physical Education and Youth Sport Coaching.

ActiveHud: On campus gym and sport facilities

Did you know, we have a suite of sports facilities suitable for all students, regardless of their course? Student wellbeing is one of our top priorities and one of the most important elements of that is physical and mental health. We want to ensure all students can access fitness and exercise opportunities to improve their physical and mental wellbeing while studying with us. And that’s where ActiveHud comes in.  

ActiveHud is our designated gym and sport offering. With a suite of sport facilities, you can sign up for a variety of different memberships which entitle you to a range of classes and activities to get your blood pumping and the sweat flowing. You can enjoy access to the following:

Sports Societies and Clubs

At the Huddersfield Students’ Union, there are a range of Sports Clubs available for students to sign up to. With the support of ActiveHud, the SU runs over 20 weekly sports sessions that students can get a membership for.  

The PLAY, COMPETE, PERFROM pathway offers opportunities for students to stay active, whether it’s their first time taking part in that sport or they’re a fully committed performance athlete.  

Clubs include: 

Basketball, Badminton, Darts, Football, Hockey, Ice Skating and Rugby

Huddersfield vs Bradford Varsity

Another way to get involved in the action is by supporting the Huddersfield and Bradford Varsity. Each year, both universities compete in the ultimate sporting showdown. Through a series of matches, we champion the hard work of our dedicated athletes along with the importance of healthy competition. Join in with the school spirit and support Huddersfield in this long running rivalry.  

Teams compete in a variety of events such as padel board, archery, rugby and football to determine which institution has what it takes to reach the top. 

Did you know: the University of Huddersfield has won the past five Varsity events, so the pressure is on to keep our crown.
