As a returning student we've detailed the activities that are compulsory as well as a wide range of information on all other aspects of starting university.

1. Attend your course induction
During Welcome Week, attending your course induction is essential. It's a chance to get together with your course team and refresh yourself on the teaching tools and resources, available to you as a student. This session will again help you understand what’s expected of you and how to navigate your studies. Plus, it’s a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with your course mates.

2. Re-registration
It’s important to re-register as a student at the start of each year of your course. This confirms that you are still studying with us and ensures that you receive your student loan on time.
You can re-register online using your existing MyHud account, the University's online portal. This is available from 1st August onwards each year for most students. We will email you in advance to let you know how to do this.

3. Access and understanding your timetable
Your teaching timetable should be available during Welcome week. This provides full details of your lectures, and any other timetabled sessions, including the date, time, week number and location. If your timetabled sessions are taking place online, you will receive instructions from your course team about how to access your teaching.

4. Access your IT resources
Our Computing and Library Service supports students using IT. The team is your first point of contact for passwords, unimail, printing, software downloads including Office 365 as well as borrowing, researching and using the library. You can contact them via phone or email on IT.support@hud.ac.uk.
In addition, Hudhelp is our digital service portal for all your IT queries.

5. Thinking of changing your course
It is possible to change your course during the same academic year or to change course for the next academic year.
Typically, moving onto a different course during the same academic year is only permitted in the first 3 weeks of study. This is because changing to a new course later than this can negatively affect your performance on the new course, as you will have missed a lot of teaching.
To make the change, you need to speak to the admissions tutor of the new course to see if they can accept you.
We would recommend that you speak to your personal tutor about your current course concerns, and they will be able to discuss your options.
