Pay your fees

Undergraduate and Postgraduate Taught fees

Check and confirm that your tuition fees have been approved if you’re applying for a tuition fee or Postgraduate Master’s Loan prior to the start of your course. 

It's very important that you apply for your tuition fee loan as soon as possible as you can only enrol on your course if you can provide the University with proof that you have your tuition fee loan in place.  

If you are a postgraduate student, you will be required to set up a recurring card payment to clear your fees in line with your Postgraduate Master’s Loan instalments. 

Otherwise, you will need to pay the University at least 25% of your fees before you start your course and the remainder when your loan arrives. Further information about student finance is available for Undergraduates and Postgraduates and Distance Learning.

 

Postgraduate Research fees

Check and confirm that your tuition fees have been approved if you’re applying for a Postgraduate Doctoral Loan prior to the start of your research programme.  

If your loan is approved, you will be required to set up a recurring card payment to clear your fees in line with your Postgraduate Doctoral Loan instalments. 

Otherwise, you will need to pay the University at least 25% of your fees before you start your course.

Distance Learning fees

Check and confirm that your tuition fees have been approved if you're applying for a tuition fee or Postgraduate Master's Loan prior to the start of your course.

You can pay your fees in one of the following ways:

1. Pay your course fee in full when you enrol.
2. Pay in instalments: for most online courses you can opt to pay in instalments, per academic year of study. This means your course fee is divided between the years of study. See example payment schedules below.
3. Payment in termly instalments using your UK government postgraduate loan. Payment instalments are set by the Student Finance Office and align with postgraduate loan payments.

(Payment by instalments is not available to students joining a course via our Performance Based Admissions (PBA) entry route or students in receipt of employer sponsorship).

Fees and finance 

You will need to have a plan in place to pay your tuition fees before you can enrol*  

If you are not paying your fees using government funding (tuition fee or Postgraduate Master’s Loan) you will be required to set up recurring card payments to clear your fees over a period set by the University.

*If your tuition fees are to be paid in part or full by an employer or sponsor, the employer or sponsor should provide the University with written confirmation on letter-headed paper. The letter should include your full name and the full invoice address. Where tuition and related fees are to be paid in part only, the amount to be paid by the employer or sponsor should be clearly stated. Employers will be invoiced for the appropriate fee as soon as possible and the invoice will be payable within 28 days of the invoice date. We regret that we are unable to allow employers to pay in instalments.

Identity and eligibility to study check

Once you accept our offer of a place, you will receive an email asking you to provide us with a copy of your passport or EU national identity card, together with any relevant visa documentation where applicable. If you don't have either of these documents, you can send us a copy of your photographic driving licence and full birth certificate, together with any relevant visa documentation. If you don't have any of the above, please see what alternative Acceptable forms of ID document you could provide.

Studying Distance Learning at the University of Huddersfield

No matter where you’re learning from, we’re here to ensure you have the support, resources, and opportunities needed to make the most of your online study experience at the University of Huddersfield.  

Choosing to study online gives you the flexibility to balance your education with work, family, or other commitments, all while gaining a high-quality degree from wherever you are in the world. You may even find yourself sharing insights and tips with fellow online learners who are new to studying with us. 

We’ve put together a range of useful information and resources to support you throughout your online learning journey, helping you stay connected, motivated, and fully engaged with your course. 

• Once you have enrolled, you will have access to our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), where you'll be able to access your teaching and learning materials and work your way through your programme of study, as well as meeting your academics.
• Through our online library, you’ll have access to 523,000 electronic books and 125,000 journals covering a wide array of subject areas. We also have subject specialist librarians who you can contact online, as well as an IT Support helpline.  
• You’ll be able to book free online appointments with our knowledgeable Careers Advisers, and have access to a 24/7 e-guidance service for quick questions, CV/application guidance and feedback, and events, all online.
