- A lunchtime get together at the University on Friday 21 June, between 12 noon and 2pm – all welcome
“WE have far more in common than divides us,” were the words of former MP Jo Cox. And the University of Huddersfield hopes to prove just that at its Huddersfield Great Get Together lunchtime event – held at the University’s campus on Friday 21 June between 12 noon and 2pm.

The event is part of the national The Great Get Together celebration, held annually to remember Jo who was murdered in 2016 and to encourage the stronger, more inclusive communities that she believed in.
Join others for lunch, music and conversation, in University Square on campus, where a variety of food outlets will be offering an array of lunchtime fare.
The Huddersfield Great Get Together will also highlight a number of real-world issues that affect everyone regardless of race, religion or politics.
The environment, a sustainable future, food poverty and displaced people are a few of the concerns uniting communities today and examples of work on these issues will be represented at the event.
Stands will highlight the threats to the environment, the need for a sustainable future, the increase in food poverty alongside food waste, the need for Fairtrade and the plight of displaced people.
Visitors on the day will see the University’s improvements on sustainability, including reducing the use of plastic and disposables, and its work to encourage Fairtrade.
The Holocaust Exhibition and Learning Centre will be open to visitors. The Centre, established in conjunction with the Holocaust Survivors’ Friendship Association, is an informative and moving reminder of the atrocities of the past, which sadly continue today.
Also attending will be The Real Junk Food Project CEO Adam Smith to introduce its famous ‘freegan’ boxes. The Real Junk Food Project strives to reduce the amount of waste of edible food. By working with businesses who donate their unwanted food and drink, the project then redistributes it on a ‘pay as you feel’ basis in the community. The project has had a nationwide take up and the University is now also looking to take part.
Enjoy lunch at the University’s Huddersfield Great Get Together on Friday 21 June, and don’t forget to bring your community spirit with you.
