Why choose History

Studying history is a really inspiring way to spend your time at university. Here at Huddersfield you’ll be able to engage with a range of approaches to history, and work with primary source materials in interesting and innovative ways. And make no mistake about it: our courses also give you a set of valuable skills that you can take out into the world of work. We’ll give you the chance to shape your studies to your interests, whether that’s the medieval period, the Tudor era or modern European history.

The 5-week work experience placement in Year 2 and the optional year-long placement after the second year could also help open up your graduate employment prospects.

Our courses

Unique Opportunities

Students work with local museums and record people’s memories for prosperity. You can get creative with opportunities to design a marketing pitch for a historical film, or an interactive soundwalk. Students can also work with the sources and experts at Holocaust Centre North, located on campus.

Experience Archives

You can do original historical research on exciting topics, discovering new archives and primary sources. You can even create exhibitions that are open to the public. You can explore our own innovative archive at Heritage Quay

Field Trips

Students can get out of the classroom on a range of exciting field trips. You can take a critical tour of the International Slavery Museum in Liverpool or to sites of historical interest in York. All these trips are either heavily subsidised or free to students.
