In 2020 QS gave us an overall 5 Star Rating. This international benchmarking system renders Five Star universities as world-class in areas such as Teaching, Employability, Facilities, Innovation, Internationalisation and Inclusiveness.
The QS Stars system evaluates universities against a range of important performance indicators:
The University was awarded the highest international 5 Star rating for Teaching, with two areas of strength including overall student satisfaction and satisfaction with teaching. Teaching underpins the University’s strategy and are proud to be the first and are the only university in the UK where 100% of permanent teaching staff* are Fellows of the Higher Education Academy. So, you’ll learn from some of the best, helping you be the best.
Employability was also recognised as an area of strength for the University with a Five Star rating. We scored the maximum rating available for graduate employability rate. We recognise the importance for students of gaining experience in the ‘real world’ during their time with us. 100% of our students have the opportunity to undertake professional work experience during their studies**, and we're in the top 15 in the UK for placement years in industry (HESA Student Record 2018/19).
The University achieved a top 5 Star rating in the category of Internationalisation. We scored the top rating for our institutional research collaborations, international students, our international support centre and for international diversity.
We achieved the top rating in the facilities category, providing students with a superb learning environment. The University scored the maximum number of points available for sporting facilities, student accommodation, health support services and student societies.
Inclusiveness
The University excelled in the area of inclusiveness, achieving the maximum 5 Star rating. This category considered scholarships and bursaries and low-income outreach and was seen as a key factor for the QS star rating.
