An international University
In 2020 and 2023 QS gave us an overall 5 Star Rating. This international benchmarking system renders[SB1] Five Star universities as world-class in areas such as Teaching, Employability, Facilities, Innovation, Internationalisation and Inclusiveness.
The QS Stars system evaluates universities against a range of important performance indicators:
Teaching
The University was awarded the highest international 5 Star rating for Teaching, with areas of strength including overall student satisfaction and satisfaction with teaching. Teaching underpins the University’s strategy and We are the UK’s only University where all our permanent teaching staff are Fellows of Advance HE*. So, you’ll learn from some of the best, helping you be the best.
Employability
Employability was also recognised as an area of strength for the University with a Five Star rating. We scored the maximum rating available for graduate employability rate and career service support. We recognise the importance for students of gaining experience in the ‘real world’ during their time with us. We’re in the top 10 in England for the number of students going on placement.**
Internationalisation
The University achieved a top 5 Star rating in the category of Internationalisation. We scored the top rating for our international research collaborations, international students, our international support centre and for international diversity.
Facilities
We achieved the top rating in the facilities category, providing students with a superb learning environment. The University scored the maximum number of points available for student accommodation, health support services and student clubs and societies.
Inclusiveness
The University excelled in the area of inclusiveness, achieving the maximum 5 Star rating. This category considered scholarships and bursaries and low-income outreach and was seen as a key factor for the QS star rating.
World Rankings
We’re ranked 521st in the world in the 2027 QS World Rankings, retaining our position in the top 550 globally.
The University of Huddersfield is ranked in the Top 300 for Sustainability in the 2027 QS World University Rankings.
We’re ranked first in the world for two rankings in the Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Rankings for 2027.
- We’re ranked first in the world for Reduced Inequalities, which celebrates our commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations. This ranking reflects the University’s work to widening opportunities for students from all backgrounds, both within the UK and around the world.
- We’re also ranked first in the world for No Poverty. This recognises the University’s commitment to reducing poverty and inequality through financial support for disadvantaged students, support for local businesses and job creation, and improved community access to essential health and wellbeing services.
We are in the Overall Top 100 at 72nd out of over 1600 global universities (Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Rankings for 2027).
University of Huddersfield 2025 Subject Ranking Results
In the 2025 QS World University Rankings, we have been named as one of the top universities globally for the following subjects***:
- We rank 37th in the world for Performing Arts
- We’re ranked in the top 100 in the world for Petroleum Engineering
- We’re ranked in the top 250 in the world in Nursing, Communication and English Language
*Permanent staff, after probation: some recently appointed colleagues will only obtain recognition in the months after their arrival in Huddersfield, once they have started teaching.
