Optometry Clinic
Our Optometry Clinic is open to everyone. You do not need to be a student or a member of University staff, and you do not need a referral from your GP. The clinic is located on campus in the Joseph Priestley East Building. Eye examinations, contact lens fitting and aftercare, and spectacle dispensing are carried out by qualified optometrists or by third-year optometry students as part of their professional training, under the direct supervision of General Optical Council (GOC) registered optometrists.
The clinic is run in partnership with Valli Optometry & Audiology, an independent optical group with practices across Yorkshire, North West and the Midlands.

How much does an appointment cost?
General fees for eye examinations
- Eye examinations carried out by our third-year student optometrists, under the supervision of a qualified optometrist, are free of charge for everyone, whether or not you are connected to the University.
- A private eye test with one of our qualified optometrists costs £30.
- University of Huddersfield students and staff receive 20% off Complete Spectacles. Staff gain access to this through the Valli Co-optic scheme and can contact Occupational Health for their DSE voucher.
NHS eye tests and vouchers
- We are an NHS provider. If you are eligible for an NHS-funded eye test, there is no charge, and if you are entitled to an NHS optical voucher we will put it towards the cost of your glasses. Check whether you qualify on the NHS website, or ask us when you book.
