Tuition fee loan - Home students

Full-time Home undergraduate students should be eligible for a tuition fee loan to cover their fees. If a student is eligible to receive a tuition fee loan and makes a valid application, then the tuition fee loan is paid directly to the University on the student’s behalf by the Student Loans Company. The tuition fee loan is repaid by the student after graduation or when they leave the University. Repayments are made once income is above £21,000 per year and then the amount repaid is 9% of your income above the repayment threshold.

Applicants should apply for a tuition fee loan to Student Finance England.

Previous study

Your eligibility for funding could be affected by previous study. However, from 2017-18, the Government will enable people to retrain in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics by removing the restriction on accessing tuition fee loans for a second degree in these subjects. Your eligibility could also be affected by previous or current residence outside the EU. Again, you should contact Student Finance England to check your eligibility.

Tuition fee loan – EU students

Following the recent EU Referendum results, the UK Government has confirmed that all current undergraduate EU students will continue to receive their current package of UK government funding until they complete their course. Funding entitlements will not change regardless of the forthcoming negotiations between the EU and the UK government.

The UK government has also confirmed that new students who are starting courses in September 2016 will also be eligible to receive the funding package available to EU students until they complete their studies, regardless of any changes to the UK membership of the EU.

Please note that the UK Government has not yet confirmed funding entitlements for EU students wanting to defer their place until 2017, or who are planning to start their course in 2017.

If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact the Student Finance Office at sfo@hud.ac.uk or on + 44 1484 472210.
