Placements are a valuable part of the courses here at Huddersfield. Not only do they give students a chance to try out their chosen profession, but they provide lasting real-world experience and practical tools that will inform the rest of your professional career.

We know how much employers value graduates who have real-world experience on their CV, and that’s why we encourage our students to make the most of the opportunities available during your time at Huddersfield.

Whether a mandatory placement or a sandwich year placement, with the right experience, you and your career can reach new heights…

Reach New Heights with a work placement

Discover how our work placement opportunities at the University of Huddersfield support our students in gaining real-world experience and working towards their career goals, so that they can reach new heights.

What do I need to know?

Firstly, it’s important to understand that there are two types of placement available at the University of Huddersfield:

Mandatory placements: These are placements that need to be undertaken as a part of a student’s course, for example: nursing.

Sandwich Year Placements: These are placements that provide hands-on experience, sometimes paid, and are undertaken as part of a student’s course. They can last up to a year in length and fall between the second and final year of your course.

There’s a real focus on the practical career environment and I love the University’s emphasis on work placements.

What’s in it for me?

There are a range of benefits for students who undertake placements during their studies. Not only does it give you experience of life outside education, but you can also:
