Volunteering Opportunity-Oxfam Pop up Preloved Clothing Stall

Oxfam and the Global Professional Award Team will be hosting a pre-loved clothing stall, right on our own campus!

They will be selling a variety of different clothing types such as professional ‘work wear’ perfect for placement and upcoming job interviews, and evening wear suitable for events such as graduations or award ceremonies.

All of the clothing is pre-loved, reusing clothes rather than buying new prevents donated items from going to landfill, and helps communities across the world to tackle poverty.

Oxfam have an incredible opportunity for students to gain some experience working with a sustainable clothing brand.

 

They need volunteers to:

• Help with marketing, promotion and social media posts on the run up to the event.
• Create an atmosphere with a snazzy playlist
• Take photographs of the stall on the day
• Creatively help with visual merchandising to advertise stock and make the store look appealing
• Assistance to run the stall, keep rails tidy and manage the changing room on the day, and provide an excellent customer experience
• Collect feedback from customers

Date: Tuesday 21^st April 2026

Location: Student Central (Opposite the Starbucks Café)

Time: The stall will run from 10am-4pm with shifts available between 9am-5pm, in 2- or 4-hour slots depending on your availability.

How do I volunteer?

1. Click the booking link to register your interest.
2. You will then need to fill out the Oxfam volunteering application form. This will involve filling out a reference section from someone e.g. an employer or staff member from the university who has known you for at least three months.

 

What training will I get?

On successful completion of the reference you will receive training with the Oxfam facilitators, on what to do on the day.

 

What is the deadline to apply?

Please make sure you have submitted your application by Wednesday 1^st April.

 

Volunteer as a Climate Ambassador!

Our education system and the nurseries, schools and colleges within it play a critical role in driving action to address climate change and nature decline. As part of the Department for Education sustainability and climate change strategy, all education settings are expected to have a climate action plan and a sustainability lead in place by the end of 2025.

This is where you can help by volunteering and using your skills to provide expert support to education settings in our local community such as:

• Delivering climate education talks
• Offering your climate expertise to develop a climate and nature action plan
• Helping buildings adapt for climate change
• Improving biodiversity in outdoor spaces
• Helping learners explore a career is sustainability (and develop green skills)

Online training, resources (e.g. template climate action plans) and a full DBS check will be provided.

Commitment: Minimum one day per year

Date: Ongoing until 2026

Natural Kirklees

Natural Kirklees is the umbrella organisation for all the “Friends of” groups and “Greenspace” management groups within the Kirklees geographical area. They are independent from; and not part of Kirklees Council. Under their roof, more than 100 voluntary groups are working hard to preserve local green spaces and establish environmental projects across Kirklees.

There are lots of ways to get involved…

Become a member

If your group has not yet joined Kirklees then please apply for membership. In addition to numerous resources, contacts, tool loans, we also offer a free public liability insurance scheme to eligible groups.

Join a Green Group

Natural Kirklees will help you find an existing volunteer group near you and in your area of interest. In our directory you will find active projects and green groups from all over Kirklees.

Help out as a volunteer

EPIKS-Environmental Projects in Kirklees

 EPIKS provide practical solutions to environmental problems within the Kirklees area. They run a series of volunteering opportunities across a variety of environmental areas such as maintaining biodiversity projects to improve habitats for nature, litter picking, active travel bike training and maintenance sessions and office based administration roles.

They hold regular weekly work parties on Wednesday mornings (10am-1pm) which are open to adults of all ages – you’ll experience a variety of tasks, helping to spruce up riverside paths and create healthier habitats for nature. During these three hour sessions our volunteers help keep paths open, gateways attractive and manage wildlife areas.

EarthSonic Local is a project partnering with eight arts venues across England. They are recruiting young people aged 18-30 to take part in the following workshops:

• Climate and biodiversity

• Recording and sampling nature sounds

• Archiving 

• Songwriting and music making workshop

The project is open to musicians, singers, producers, engineers, activists and lovers of nature of all abilities. 

Participants will receive a certificate of completion from Music and Sonic Studies, Manchester Metropolitan University.

A selection of tracks created during the project will be released in 2026, accompanied by live performances at events in Manchester and London.

 

Dates: Ongoing from September to December 2025

Location: The workshops will be held in The Parish Music Venue, sounds recordings will take place around the local area.

Revive is a local community interest company charity that sells donated items or reusable items that they have intercepted at Leeds City Council and Kirklees Council waste recycling sites. Part of their remit is to make reusable items available to our local communities at affordable prices. In doing so, they hope to alleviate poverty and hardship - improving the quality of life of those around us.

Revive provide employment and opportunities for those from socially excluded backgrounds. They offer these people the chance to develop skills and socialise in a safe environment. As a result, this can reduce isolation, improve mental health and help those in our communities contribute to the area in which they live.

Revive have opportunities for volunteering in their Huddersfield based shop which can include the following duties:

• Sorting through the donations
• Repairing stock ready for sale
• Retail work
• Operating the online store
• Social Media and digital marketing
• Website design

Volunteering

You will receive basic training and an introduction to our site. This will include our health and safety, policies and procedures. We also often give all our volunteers the opportunity to apply for courses. These courses could be anything from, Health & Safety, Professional Boundaries, PAT (Portable Appliance Testing) and Bicycle Maintenance.

Or you can drop them off at the Revive shop which is located next to the bus station in Huddersfield town centre, 8 Upperhead Row, HD1 2JL.

Superhero Sphagnum Moss!

Join us on a unique opportunity to help restore the beautiful, local moor land on the special ‘Landscapes for Water Project’, which is being undertaken by the West Yorkshire portfolio of the National Trust.

Sphagnum moss is a superhero for moorland conservation as it can absorb huge amounts of water to provide a natural flood defence and boost climate resilience for people and wildlife.

The session will involve a range of general nursery and propagating work such as the separating of sphagnum moss to create new trays of future moss and wrapping the moss to create plugs that can be planted on the Marsden moor next year. This will be followed with a guided walk on the Marsden moorlands to learn a little of the history of the area and to spot some local wildlife.

All transport, equipment and PPE will be provided.

Please be sure to wear warm outdoor clothing, and flat sensible shoes.
