Applying for additional time at the end of your programme

If you come to the end of your period of registration and find that you still need to complete research, you can apply for additional time in active research. During this period of additional study time, you will continue to receive full supervision and you will be allowed to access full facilities to carry out your research.

Fees

You will be required to pay tuition fees for the period of additional time that you require, but this will be on a pro-rata basis:

  • Up to 4 months of additional time is charged at 25% of the standard tuition fee;
  • Up to 8 months of additional time is charged at 50% of the standard tuition fee;
  • Up to 12 months of additional time is charged at 100% of the standard tuition fee.

To calculate the fee you will be charged, please see the Fees and Finance webpages for Home/EU students or International Students

Fees will not usually be covered by your sponsor or a fee-waiver. UKRI / bursary funded students may have strict time limits for completion of their work shorter than the University maximum.
