The excellence of the University of Huddersfield’s apprenticeship courses has been recognised in two new sets of figures.

For the second consecutive year Huddersfield is the highest rated of 17 universities for apprenticeships across the north of England, from Manchester to Newcastle-upon-Tyne, in the latest Qualification Achievement Rates (QAR) published by the Department for Education (DfE).

Huddersfield’s rate of 88 per cent of students achieving their apprenticeship across its 11 apprenticeship degree courses for 2024/25 is up from 87.6 per cent in the previous year.

And employers have given the university a top rating of 4.0 out of 4.0 for their satisfaction with Huddersfield as an apprenticeship provider in more figures released by the DfE.

The QAR figure of 88 per cent achieving their apprenticeship also compares well on a national scale, with no other university achieving a comparable rate across as many as the 11 courses that Huddersfield has to offer.

It adds to other excellent results for apprenticeship courses, with Huddersfield having an overall QAR pass rate of 100 per cent, and being awarded the highest possible grade of Outstanding by Ofsted for its apprenticeship provision.

The QAR figure is generally viewed as the measure by which a provider’s overall effectiveness can be judged, giving both employers and apprentices additional confidence in the quality of individual providers.

Both figures being high are an indicator that the University of Huddersfield’s training is well-delivered, the courses are well-managed and that learners are supported to achieve success.

Employers with apprenticeship students from the university have given Huddersfield the highest rating on the DfE website, with top marks of 4.0 out of 4.0 for their satisfaction with Huddersfield as an apprenticeship provider. Similarly, our apprentices have rated Huddersfield with 3.8 out of 4.0, significantly higher than other universities offering similar courses.

Brian Culleton, Director of Apprenticeships and Skills, commented, “A consistently sector-leading achievement rate, a 100 per cent pass rate, and an Outstanding Ofsted grade are the product of excellent support that our colleagues provide to our apprentices.

“The fact that employers and learners have rated us so highly reflects the quality of the partnerships that we develop. These results give employers confidence that choosing the University of Huddersfield ensures the occupational competence of their workforce.”

The University offers a number of higher and degree apprenticeships, which are a way for employers to support their staff to study for university qualifications. Apprentices spend part of their time at the University and the remainder at their place of work, benefitting from on-the-job training, enhanced by their degree education.
