Strong performance for Huddersfield in QS World University Rankings for 2027

The University of Huddersfield has performed strongly in the QS World University Rankings 2027, moving into the top 300 for Sustainability.
Overall, the University has risen to 521st globally in the annual rankings compiled by higher education analytics firm QS, an increase of three places compared to last year.
As well as the improvement in the Sustainability indicator – a rise in 44 places to reach 285th in the world – Huddersfield performed particularly well in the Citations Per Faculty indicator, up 60 places to 455th in the world.
The World University Rankings covers a number of lens areas comprising Research and Discovery, Employability and Outcomes, Learning Experience, Global Engagement and Sustainability. Universities are then assessed across a total of nine indicators within these areas.
The QS World University Rankings for 2027 features 1,504 institutions across 106 locations.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Huddersfield, Professor Tim Thornton, commented: “These results are further confirmation that the strategic focus of the University in developing its work in innovation, skills, and internationalisation is bearing fruit. It is especially pleasing to see a ranking inside the top 300 universities in the world for our contribution to sustainability.”
In the UK, Huddersfield is ranked 49th out of 93 institutions, up from 50th place out of 90 last year.
The latest rankings success follows the University’s performance in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2025, released in June 2025, where Huddersfield was ranked number one in the world for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 10 – Reduced Inequalities.
In addition, the University was named the Most Improved University in the UK in the 2025 QS World University Rankings, having risen up the rankings by more than 200 places in the previous three years, and was also number one in the UK in the global Times Higher Education Young University Rankings 2024.
