School's out! University and hcmf// offer free places for August music workshops

The University of Huddersfield is set to host a series of music workshops for young people in school years 7 to 11 during the summer holidays, with free places available for those who receive free school meals.
No experience is needed for the workshops, which are delivered by Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (hcmf//) and can be booked from the hcmf// website.
The two-day workshops cover DJ-ing, audio production, how the magic of live sound works, and creating music for the screen.
The workshops are run in the Richard Steinitz Building and Heritage Quay on campus with access to the University’s state-of-the-art facilities, and a hot lunch in the campus canteen is included for everyone who takes part.
Hands-on creativity is at the heart of all the workshops, with guidance from professionals with extensive knowledge of the music industry. All equipment is provided.
Bookings can be made for one, two, three or all four workshops, the first of which – DJ Skills – is on 4th and 5th August.
Up to 10 places free of charge are available for young people in receipt of free school meals.
"We focus on the young people getting a really great hands-on experience," says Roisin Hughes, hcmf// Executive Producer. "The University hosting these workshops is transformational, and everyone is encouraged to get involved, actively take part and have a go at everything they can."
