University launches new public lecture series

The University of Huddersfield is throwing open the doors to its research and innovation with a string of public lectures, beginning in the newly opened Daphne Steele Building in November.
We’re excited to announce the relaunch of our monthly Public Lectures - ‘Research in Conversation’ for 2024/25 - a series of accessible and informative events, which are free and open to members of the public, students and staff.
The first event takes place at 17:30 on Thursday, 21 November in the Daphne Steele Building, the first of several new developments that comprise the National Health and Innovation Campus (NHIC) on Southgate just along from the University.

Professor Liz Towns Andrews and Professor Jane Owen-Lynch (acting Dean of the School of Human and Health Sciences) will give an overview of current activities, future plans and vision for NHIC and showcase the groundbreaking research and innovative projects taking place in the Daphne Steele Building.
On 12 December, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Tim Thornton will talk about his research into King Richard III and ‘the princes in the Tower’, one of the most famous and notorious missing person cases in the country’s history. Professor Thornton will talk about his discoveries that have cast a new light on the struggle for the monarchy in the fifteenth century, and their implications for the destiny of the crown.

Our Research in Conversation events are an opportunity to share our fantastic research and its relevance in the everyday world, featuring talks around various topics of interest, and hearing directly from our very own university experts and from those around the world.
Each lecture will give you the opportunity to get involved with a question-and-answer session, and the chance to network with like-minded individuals, over complimentary refreshments.
We have lots of exciting plans, themes and speakers in the pipeline for our 2024/25 series, and we can’t wait to have you there.
