Holocaust Centre North will mark Holocaust Memorial Day with an event for the public.

Visit the Eventbrite website to book a ticket for the event, which starts at 18:00 on Tuesday, 24 January.

Holocaust Memorial Day commemorates all who were murdered in the Holocaust, by Nazi persecution, and in other genocides. It serves as a timely reminder to challenge persecution in today’s society.

The Centre, located in the University’s Schwann Building, will host an event on Tuesday 24 January, starting at 6:00pm that will include a talk by Michelle Green, a 2nd generation survivor. Michelle’s mother, Lili Pollock, and her sister were the only members of their family to survive the Holocaust. Lili managed to reach England, eventually settling in Harrogate where she married and ran a kosher B&B for many years. Lili’s parents, Josef and Gisela, and her brother Kurtl all died in Auschwitz in 1944.

Trude Silman MBE, Life President of the Holocaust Survivors Friendship Association, will also be in attendance.

The hour-long event will also include a performance by arts organisation 6Million+, and a candle-lighting ceremony.
