None in Three Annual Conference
September 2021 marks the scheduled conclusion of the None in Three GCRF funded, four-year research project to explore different forms of gender-based violence in India, Jamaica, Uganda and the UK.
To mark this project milestone, None in Three (Ni3) is hosting its first Ni3 Annual Conference. This free, online event includes a broad mix of sessions reflecting on the progress made over the last four years and looking forward to the future of research into gender-based violence.
Week-long conference - 27 September to 1 October
The week-long conference runs from Monday 27 September to Friday 1 October and includes two key elements. On the Monday and Tuesday, there will be short training sessions for early career researchers looking for an opportunity to develop their skills.
The remainder of the week, Wednesday to Friday, looks back over the last four years of the GCRF funded research project, as well as looking toward the future of the research centre.

Sessions include training workshops for new and aspiring researchers delivered by:
- Dr Nadia Wager, the Director of the Ni3 Research Centre and a Reader in Forensic Psvchology.
- Dr Esther Nanfuka, a professional Social Worker and a Lecturer in the Department of Social work and Social Administration, at Makerere University, Uganda.
- Professor Paul Miller, a Jamaican-born, British academic and former Professor of Educational Leadership and Management in the School of Education and Professional Development at the University of Huddersfield.
- Dr Karyl Powell-Booth, a Jamaican Associate Clinical Psychologist, with an MSc in Clinical Psychology and more than 15 years’ experience working with adolescent and young people with mental disorders and mental health challenges in Jamaica.
Reflecting on the past and looking to the future
The latter part of the week will reflect on what has been achieved over the past four years, as well as looking to the future of the centre with a broad range of sessions. These include a keynote speech with Professor Adele Jones, the creator and Director of the EU-funded (€400,000) None in Three Project in Barbados and Grenada which laid the foundations for the establishment of the global Ni3 Research Centre. Professor Jones was Professor of Social Work at the University of Huddersfield, a position she held until her retirement in 2021 and was the Principal Investigator on the GCRF project.
A Ni3 Open Executive Group meeting will be attended by the Country Directors from each of the four GCRF study countries: India, Jamaica, Uganda and the UK, providing an opportunity to hear project highlights from each of the country’s involved in this project.
There will also be a Ni3 Design Hub Showcase with a member of the Ni3 Design Hub, Mehak Gupta, a graphic designer based at the Indian School of Design and Innovation who has been heavily involved in the visual aspects of the Ni3’s brand and social media presence.
An international panel will discuss cross-cultural learning as part of the None in Three project, featuring Mikael Barfod (former EU Ambassador), Melanie Barwick (Senior Scientist and Head of the Child and Youth Mental Health Research Unit, SickKids), Caroline Ignacio (Associate Consultant, Promundo), Melinda Lemke (Assistant Professor, Educational Leadership & Policy, University of Buffalo) and Princess Olufemi-Kayode (Nigerian criminal justice psychologist and prominent child rights activist).
The Ni3 Games Team will explore how prosocial, interactive, immersive computer games can bring about real changes in attitudes towards gender-based violence.
