As the new year sets in, many of us are looking for ways to improve our health and feel better for the year ahead. A great way to achieve this is to reduce the amount of alcohol we drink. The charity ‘Alcohol Change UK’ are running their annual ‘Dry January’ campaign again this year, during which people are encouraged to give up alcohol for the whole of January. Research has shown that giving up alcohol for these 31 days helps people drink more healthily all year round, with people who take part still drinking less in August.
Many of us know about the health risks of alcohol – seven forms of cancer, liver disease, mental health problems – but we are often unaware that drinking less has more immediate benefits too. Sleeping better, feeling more energetic, saving money, better skin, losing weight… The list goes on. Dry January helps millions to experience those benefits and to make a longer-lasting change to drink more healthily.
If you are taking part in Dry January, or if you just want some more information about the effects of alcohol and how reducing consumption can make you feel better, Kirklees Alcohol Services are coming in to run an interactive and informative session with staff. The session will take place on Tuesday 8 January at 12.30pm in OA7/30 in the Oastler Building and will last approximately 30 minutes. Tea, coffee and fruit will be provided and please feel free to bring your lunch if you have limited time away from your desk.
Book your place on this session.
