Professor Nigel Parton

Professor Nigel Parton will head the editorial team behind open access journal Social Sciences

A UNIVERSITY of Huddersfield professor has taken over as editor of a journal that offers a global perspective on a wide range of subjects and attracts contributors from all over the world.

Social Sciences is issued monthly online by publisher MDPI, from its offices in Basel and Beijing.  Nigel Parton, who is a Professor in the School of Human and Health Sciences at the University of Huddersfield, and a leading expert on issues that include child protection, was invited to become the new Editor-in-Chief.

He is backed by a 28-strong editorial board of professors based at universities in 11 countries, including the UK, the USA, Japan, Sweden, Australia and Germany.

“I am really looking forward to this new challenge because Social Sciences is not only open access but is also very international.  The journal is highly interdisciplinary and covers the full range of the social sciences.  My role is to have overall responsibility for day-to-day decisions as well as taking the lead in setting the future strategic direction for the journal,” said Professor Parton, who is author, co-author and editor of 25 books, and over 100 journal articles and book chapters.

He is also a member of the editorial board of 10 national and international journals in the fields of child welfare and protection.  Social Sciences covers subjects that include anthropology, criminology, economics, education, psychology, social work and sociology.
