Frank To Graduate artist Frank To

Frank To is the only Scottish male artist to have his work selected to appear at the Royal Society of British Artists Annual Exhibition in London

THE explosive artwork from a fine art graduate of the University of Huddersfield has been selected to feature at this year’s prestigious Royal Society of British Artists Annual Exhibition.

Frank To is a Huddersfield Fine Art graduate whose unique art is garnering him international recognition as a leading contemporary artist amongst art critics and high-profile collectors alike.

These include the University’s Emeritus Chancellor Professor Sir Patrick Stewart and New York-based Michel Witmer, who hangs Frank To’s paintings alongside those of Picasso, Dine and Warhol.

He is the only Scottish male artist this year whose work has been officially selected by the Royal Society of British Artists from over 1,500 entries.

Commenting on the new work Frank explains the importance of challenging himself both mentally and physically with his art.

“When I began developing this new technique of firing and infusing gunpowder on to metallic plates as the basis to my drawings last year, it was simply out of curiosity,” he said.

“Now I’m using it to challenge and contribute to the actual craft of contemporary drawing.  As I am trained traditionally, I am showing innovation in art drawing process that is rarely sought by many artists today which is unfortunate.  I am delighted to be accepted as the only Scottish male artist in the Royal Society of British Artists.”

The Royal Society of British Artists is dedicated to promoting the highest standards of skill, concept and draughtsmanship in painting, sculpture, printmaking and drawing.  The Royal Society of British Artists holds an open submission exhibition in central London each year.

Founded in 1823, the Royal Society of British Artists was originally set up to rival the Royal Academy.  Today, the Society prides itself on exhibiting an eclectic mix of sculpture and paintings in all media.

  • Frank To’s ignited gunpowder copper art will go on show in the Royal Society of British Artists Annual Exhibition at the Mall Galleries, Federation of British Artists, 17 Carlton House Terrace, London, SW1Y 5BD from 21 to 31 March 2018.
