The conference will include a keynote from Professor Sarah Hibberd (University of Bristol) and performances by members of Boxwood & Brass and the Meiningen Ensemble.

The Programme Committee invites proposals relating to any aspect of music and musical cultures of the long nineteenth century, and welcomes contributions on the following themes in particular:

historicism and modernity
ruptures and continuities
intersectionalities
continentalism and transnationalism
digital musicologies
music and literature (including the melodramatic, the fantastic, the lyric)
nineteenth-century analytical methodologies/philosophies
new approaches to analysing nineteenth-century music
responses to and understandings of notation
performing practices, reception, and criticism
popular and vernacular music
music, embodiment, and dance

Proposals are invited for the following:

Individual papers (20 minutes, plus 10 minutes for discussion)
Themed sessions (three or four papers, each 20 mins, with 10 mins of discussion)
Roundtable sessions (up to six presenters, each giving a brief position paper, followed by general discussion)
Performances and lecture/recitals (40 minutes in total)
Posters (no larger than A2, and laminated)

Proposals should take the following form:

Individual papers: maximum of 250 words
Themed sessions: 250-word summary outlining the aims of the session and giving a brief description of each paper (200 words each)
Roundtable sessions: 250-word summary outlining the aims of the session and giving a brief description of each position paper
Performances and lecture/recitals: 250-word summary outlining the aims (plus supporting materials, for example CV, recordings, and/or programme details)
