International Scholarships

Each year, we welcome students from a diverse range of backgrounds from all over the world. We offer merit-based scholarships, specially awarded and research scholarships for eligible international students. These can help to assist with the costs of study, including undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

Merit-based scholarships

At the University of Huddersfield, we recognise academic excellence by offering a merit-based scholarship of up to £4,000. There is no specific application process for these scholarships. Once you apply to study at the University as an international student, you will automatically be considered for this scholarship if you meet the eligibility criteria.

If you’re awarded a scholarship, you will be notified in your offer letter and given the full details of what you will receive.

Scholarships for undergraduates

For international undergraduate students, you could be awarded up to £4,000 for each year of your course, based on your academic achievements as follows.

  • AAB UK A-Level Equivalent - you'll receive the £4,000 scholarship amount
  • ABB UK A-Level Equivalent - you'll receive a £3,000 scholarship amount
  • General entry requirements - you'll receive a £2,000 scholarship amount

Scholarships for postgraduates

Scholarships of up to £4,000 are awarded to international students applying for taught postgraduate courses, based on their academic achievements as follows.

  • First (Hons) Equivalent - you'll receive the £4,000 scholarship amount
  • Upper Second 2.1 (Hons) Equivalent - you'll receive a £3,000 scholarship amount
  • Lower Second 2.2 (Hons) Equivalent - you'll receive a £2,000 scholarship amount

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for our merit-based scholarship, you must:

  • be an international fee-paying student who is self-funding their studies, meaning you are not already receiving any funding
  • be applying for a full-time taught undergraduate, postgraduate or PGCE course (unless you are already qualified for a bursary)
  • for postgraduate courses, you must have achieved a minimum 2.2 or equivalent in your undergraduate degree and must meet the English and academic entry requirements for your course.

Terms and conditions

  • Students will be notified in their offer letter if they have been awarded a scholarship and what the full details are.
  • Eligible international students will be awarded the scholarship for every year of their course, excluding their placement year.
  • This scholarship will not be awarded alongside any other University or external scholarships.

Exclusions

The following students are not eligible for the merit-based scholarships.

  • International students applying for the MA TESOL with Placement.
  • Master’s with placement students in the Huddersfield Business School are not eligible for these scholarships. 
  • Master’s by Research programmes are not eligible for merit-based scholarships. Please see our Research Scholarships for available opportunities when applying for a research degree.
  • Applicants with refugee, asylum-seeker status, or indefinite leave to remain in the UK are not eligible.

Specially awarded scholarships

Destination Change Scholarship

We are offering £1,000 if you hold an offer from a university in the USA and switch to Huddersfield instead. [NEXT DATES NEEDED HERE AND IN MODAL].

Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship

Provides a fee waiver of at least 50% (100% in some Schools) on full-time or part-time research degrees to international students and those from the EU. [REVIEW DATES IN MODAL]

Chevening Scholarships

The prestigious and highly competitive Chevening Scholarship, offered by the UK Government, provides full or part funding for full-time courses at a postgraduate level. 

GREAT Scholarships

The GREAT Scholarships programme offers financial support of a minimum of £10,000 for those pursuing one-year postgraduate study in the UK. Specific criteria applies.

Sports scholarships

We offer various sports scholarships to talented students to help you fulfil your sporting ambitions whilst studying. Benefits include merit-based funding, free gym access and bespoke training.
