BRP and Student ID collection

When you arrive in the UK you must collect your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) card from your nominated post office. If you nominated the Huddersfield Post Office, this is located on New Street, Huddersfield and it is a 10-minute walk from the university campus.

Once you have your BRP card you can collect your student ID card from the International Office in the Student Central Building at a designated time which will be detailed in the enrolment emails that we send you.

Opening a bank account

Many banks offer student bank accounts. It is advisable to check with the bank beforehand to ensure they can offer an account that meets your needs. Whichever bank you choose, they will require proof that you are a student.

You can download a self-service letter yourself after you have been enrolled. You can access this by going to MyHud, you applicant portal, and following this path: My Hud > Quick links > My details > Documents.  Get more information about student bank accounts on the iPoint information page.

Register with a Health Centre

One of the first things you might want to do when you arrive in Huddersfield is register with a National Health Service (NHS) general practice. The University Health Centre is on campus, so if you live within 3 miles of campus, this could be ideal for you. You can register online so you can access their services.

Sport at Huddersfield

There are lots of opportunities to get involved with sport at Huddersfield, from our regular global sports tournaments to the many Students’ Union sports clubs and competitive teams, that compete against other universities. There’s also a yearly Varsity challenge against our local rivals, Bradford University.  

Health and fitness at Huddersfield

We have excellent on-campus fitness facilities, including a gym with over 80 stations. The ActiveHud gym, swim and class membership includes access to Kirklees Active Leisure (KAL) facilities. There is something to suit everyone as you will have access to ten fitness centres, over 100 fitness classes, and seven swimming pools, seven days a week prices start from just £18 per month.
