Choosing distance learning

I chose to study online because I wanted to be able to work while I studied. Distance learning was therefore a very convenient option for me.

A typical week for me involved working full-time 9-5 and studying in the evenings for an hour or two, then choosing one day on the weekend to dedicate to uni work. I sometimes studied during breaks at work if needed, but mostly I was able to study at home.

“Studying online gave me the flexibility to continue working whilst I studied and allowed me to learn at the times that worked for me.”

100% online

The reason I chose Huddersfield specifically for distance learning was because the assignments did not require in-person attendance. A lot of other universities, despite advertising their courses as distance learning, had face to face elements within their courses.

Balancing my work and studies

When it comes to studying online, time management is absolutely key and taking breaks is also very important, otherwise you will burn out.

For me personally, it was quite easy to fit my studies around my work. There were occasional difficult periods, however, my tutors were understanding and provided extra support to help guide me through these more challenging moments. My work, thankfully, were also very understanding of my uni commitments – I was very lucky to have it both ways.

The tutors on my course were absolutely amazing and provided me with support whenever I needed it.

Developing skills for industry

The course content more than met my expectations. I learnt a lot and my job as a Data Analyst Intern went hand in hand with what I was studying. As a student on the course, I felt challenged enough without feeling overwhelmed by the content.

This was helped by the fact that the tutors were very good at delivering quality lectures that improved my knowledge. Plus, they were always available and helpful, answering any questions I had about the course.

Overall, the support from my tutors was absolutely amazing. I would like to mention Professor Andrew Crampton here, he was beyond amazing at taking over as my thesis project supervisor partway through my course.

Looking to the future

My career goal is to become a Data Analyst and I know that my Master’s course at the University of Huddersfield has prepared me very well for this. I did an internship in Data Analytics alongside this course, and I found that the course material was relevant to my role and really helped succeed in it and vice versa.
