Mentoring scheme

Want to inspire the next generation of professionals?

Huddersfield Business School's Mentoring Scheme provides final-year students from all business-related subject areas access to an industry mentor to support them in their final year at University of Huddersfield, particularly in terms of managing the transition from student to graduate. As a mentor you can offer support in areas such as industry-specific advice, job application support, confidence building, and help with building their professional network.

Why be a mentor?

As a mentor, we feel you have a lot to offer final-year students in terms of helping them manage their transition from student to graduate. As a mentor you can make a meaningful difference in the lives of students, but mentors also benefit in many others ways too:

  • Enhance your own professional development
  • An opportunity to reflect on your own career
  • Stay plugged into early career trends
  • Talent spotting and joining the dots
  • Grow your own network

Sam Wood - Platform Transition Lead

"I got a lot from the scheme, keeping myself in touch with the current graduate market is essential from both a personal and professional point of view as an employer of local talent. Equally, I benefited from being able to develop my own coaching and mentoring skills, as well as developing my network further. I believe the scheme provides significant benefits to students when preparing to enter the world of work."

"The process has been super useful both personally and professionally. I have loved seeing my mentee's confidence grow. Not only did we focus our time on applying for roles but we also looked at how we can build personal soft skills. I have seen a difference in myself in how I approach situations and how to have more empathy with graduates within my role."
