Your induction

The information you need to know when you start is here. We've detailed the activities that are compulsory including attending your course induction as well as a wide range of information on all other aspects of starting university.

If you have any questions or issues when you arrive, please visit one of our iPoint helpdesks or email ipoint@hud.ac.uk

1. Attend your course induction

During Welcome Week, attending your course induction is essential. It's a chance to meet your course team and learn about your course, teaching tools and resources, exams, assessments, feedback processes, and the extensive support available to you as a student. This session will help you understand what’s expected of you and how to navigate your studies. Plus, it’s a fantastic opportunity to connect with your course mates.

Should you experience any difficulties accessing your induction timetable or attending induction sessions, please contact our friendly customer service team, iPoint who are here to help you.

2. Collect your campus card

Your campus card is your student ID, for proving your student status, as well as allowing you access to campus and university buildings.

As part of your online enrolment, you are required to upload a suitable photograph for your card to your MyHud account. We will send you confirmation of how you will receive your campus card, nearer the start of term and you will see details on what constitutes a suitable photo, when you visit Step 1 of your MyHud portal.

If you are a UK based distance learning student, your school will arrange for your campus card to be posted to you.

3. Access and understanding your timetable

Your teaching timetable will be available during Welcome week. This provides full details of your lectures, and any other timetabled sessions, including the date, time, week number and location. If your timetabled sessions are taking place online, you will receive instructions from your course team about how to access your teaching.

Once enrolled your teaching timetable is accessible via MyHud. The calendar tile on the MyHud homepage shows you an overview of your upcoming activities. You can click on the calendar tile to view your in-depth timetable, and view your activities by day, month or week.

If you are having problems accessing or understanding your timetable, please visit our useful timetable information page.
