Enhance your career

A postgraduate qualification is a great way to improve your professional prospects, change your career path or master your passion. And at Huddersfield we’re proud that 93.8% of our postgraduate students go on to work and/or further study within six months of graduating (DLHE 2016/17). Postgraduate degrees and research are challenging, inspiring and can make a huge difference to your professional life. In fact, the average starting salary of our postgraduates is £28.7K per annum (DLHE 2016/17).

In some professions, including teaching, law, architecture and health, you’ll be required to gain industry accreditation as standard*. Within other sectors, a postgraduate qualification will allow you to stand out from the crowd with specialist knowledge, expertise and skills or even allow you to change career direction entirely.

Whatever your reasons, studying at Huddersfield means that you’ll have access to great employment support through our Careers and Employability Service – not just whilst you’re here, but throughout your working life.

*Please see individual courses for more information on accreditation by professional bodies.

Yazam Hamad

Student: MBA

“I have come from a business background, so the MBA is going to enrich my career. After looking at the CV’s of most of my managers and directors, it was clear that they all had an MBA qualification which really pushed my decision to continue my studies. Connecting the theory with my experience has been really beneficial.”

Continuing professional development

If you’re currently employed, don’t let that stop you from looking into postgraduate study.

It’s worth speaking with your manager as many employers support their staff by contributing towards the cost of study. There are many professional benefits and managers often understand the value a postgraduate course can offer, particularly the valuable knowledge and skills that can be related to your workplace or professional practice.

Student: Technology Enhanced Learning

"Studying part time whilst working as a learning technologist meant that I could put into practice everything I was learning straight away. I have been a Learning Technologist for the last 6.5 years so it felt like the right time to enhance my knowledge. Studying part time whilst working full time meant that I worked on my coursework before work and on an evening, whenever I had some free time."

Xiao Lu (Sandy)

Horizon Risk Consultancy Ltd

“I have 14 years’ occupational health, safety and environmental management experience in leading global companies. I completed my Master’s by Research in Safety Culture at the University of Huddersfield in 2016 and started up Horizon Risk Consultancy Ltd in January 2017 to support UK businesses. From the initial discussion about my business idea, the Enterprise Team offered me tremendous support and guidance including one-to-one business advice, help with business plans, business coaching and quarterly meetings to periodically review my progress. The Enterprise Workshops equipped me with essential knowledge around legal issues, accounting, insurance, branding, public relations, sales and marketing and social media. I also had access to free state-of-the-art office space and facilities in The Enterprise Hub. Working with a diverse range of entrepreneurs, I have also had the opportunity to share business information and experience, and explore opportunities to collaborate.”
