If you're looking for an inspiring and fun activity for your children, the Creative Loop Challenge offers a brilliant chance for young people to explore their imagination while celebrating Yorkshire and Huddersfield's rich textile heritage. This free competition, ran in partnership with the University of Huddersfield and the Knitting and Crochet Guild, is open to all Yorkshire residents aged under 18.
Children are invited to experiment with knitting and crochet in inventive, unexpected ways, drawing on ideas of structure, movement, and pattern. Whether they're budding designers, architects, engineers, footballers, or simply enjoy making things, this is a wonderful way for them to try something new.
Key dates and opportunities for families:
- Competition runs: October - December 2025
- Submission deadline: 31 December 2025
- Free creative workshops: For ages 5 - 18, held at the Barbara Hepworth Building on Saturday 6 December 2025. Parents are warmly welcome to stay and support.
- Exhibition and awards ceremony: Saturday 7 February 2026
The workshop offers a great weekend activity, and a fantastic way for children to develop creative skills while spending time on campus.
The Creative Loop Challenge is part of The Interlace Project (TIP), a not-for-profit research group within the Schools of Arts and Humanities, supported by an Impact Accelerator Award (IAA) and the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC).
We hope you and your children will join us for this exciting creative adventure.
