University Inclusion Week – Event Guide

Our Annual University Inclusion Week is a key event in our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Calendar and an opportunity for all staff to participate in developing an inclusive workplace,  gain new insights and skills, and celebrate the diversity of our University community. Our week-long programme of events is taking place on Monday 10 to Friday 14 March 2025 and will encompass a broad range of inclusion topics, both online and in-person.

University of Huddersfield Neurodiversity Conference 2025

Following the successful launch of our Neurodiversity Staff Group in 2023 and our inaugural conference in 2024, we will host a second morning Conference during University Inclusion Week. The event will build upon knowledge and experience from across the University to address current themes around neurodiversity in the workplace and how this connects into a wider inclusion agenda.

Attendees can expect to hear talks and engage in discussion on areas such as: the language of neurodiversity; ableism/ internalised ableism; positive disclosure; and creating a neuroinclusive workplace.

The event is open to all, and you can book your place here

The Human Library

Wednesday 12 March 2025, 12:00 – 14:00, Jo Cox More in Common Centre

Join us at our Human Library Event where you can borrow a ‘Living Book’ and hear their story. This chance to engage in open, honest and respectful conversation with someone who is willing to share their story can offer attendees an insight into the life experiences of others, challenging stigmas and stereotypes through dialogue and personal conversations. The session will be split into 3 readings, starting at 12pm, 12:50pm, and 1:30pm. You can attend for one, two or all three readings, 'borrowing' a book per reading.

Full details of the Living Book titles are available when you sign up to attend here.

Carers Count Workshop

Thursday 13 March 2025, 13:00 – 13:45, Online

There are 5.8 million unpaid carers in the UK and 1 in 7 people in the workplace are juggling unpaid caring responsibilities with work. Caring can be rewarding, but it does impact every aspect of a carer’s life, including their own mental and physical health, relationships, finances and employment. In this online session, Ann Marie Brabiner, from Carers Count, will provide advice and information about the services and support available to you as a carer (whether you care for a relative, friend or child/children). There will also be opportunity to ask questions. Please sign up to attend here

Inclusive Together - Building a Culture of Belonging

Friday 14 March 2025, 12:00 – 13:00, Online

This online workshop will deepen your understanding of diversity, inclusion, and allyship and why they matter. Participants will have the opportunity to explore how bias and privilege influence our interactions and opportunities, learn practical ways to support and advocate for underrepresented colleagues and students, and consider how to create inclusive spaces that welcome and support everyone.

This is proving to be a popular course so be sure to book your place in advance.
