Empowering Diversity: Talk by Award Winning Prof. Gita Sedghi

Professor Gita Sedghi has a sustained track record of developing and disseminating excellence in her teaching. For this, she has received several awards, including the Principal Fellowship of HEA, the National Teaching Fellowship, and RSC Excellence in Higher Education.
Gita has devised innovative teaching methods to stimulate student engagement and enhance learning. She has created high-quality and inclusive resources to meet the requirements of a diverse community of students. Her teaching innovations include internationalisation activities, peer-assisted learning, pre-lab tutoring system, initiatives to enhance maths teaching, and embedding equality, diversity and inclusion into the curriculum. The initiatives showcase her inclusive approach and respect for various learning needs.
Gita will shed light on her academic journey in her upcoming lecture, focusing on her recent teaching innovations. Drawing from her career journey, Gita will illustrate the challenges educators encounter in addressing the multifaceted needs of a diverse student body. She will articulate how strategic leadership could align institutional objectives with educator aspirations, cultivating learning environments that transform the student experience.
Gita will focus on the credit and non-credit bearing summer research placements abroad, embedding EDI into the curriculum and an innovative tool to assess the inclusivity of modules/programmes. These resources provide students with a wealth of inclusive opportunities for growth, both personally and professionally, and equip them with the skills and experiences needed to succeed in a globalised world.
