Introduction of in-year course assessment meetings for 25/26
From academic year 2025/2026, the University will be introducing in-year course assessment meetings (in-year CAMs) to process modules taught and assessed within the first term of the course as agreed through UTLC. The main consideration for this change is to support student retention by enabling eligible students to complete in-year referrals and deferrals and maintain momentum with their assessments, rather than waiting to complete refer/defer work after the main CAM at the end of their academic year.
Initially, there will be in-year CAMs available for September cohorts completing Term 1 modules (S1) and for January cohorts completing Term 2 modules (S2) (excluding placement modules). October in-year CAMs for May start cohorts will be considered if appropriate for Term 3 Modules (T3).
For modules to be eligible to go to the in-year CAMs, all teaching, all assessments and any extensions need to have been completed within the dates, as follows:

All assessments must be submitted by the end date for the module to make the widows for the in-year CAM. As such assessments due in the final week before the end date cannot be eligible for extensions.
The usual three-week marking period will be applied before the in-year CAM and it is expected that all moderation and external examination will have been completed within this window. Following the release of results, students will submit any refer/defer work within the three-week submission period and these results will be considered at the main CAM for that course.
An initial check has been made of September S1 (QGA/S1) and January S2 (QGJ/S2) teaching and assessment submission dates to ensure that these periods fall within the prescribed dates. However, if you are aware of any modules designated as QGA/S1 and QGJ/S2 where the teaching or assessments fall outside of the dates in the table above, please contact your Course Administration team. Please note that the results for QGJ/S2 modules which are second term modules in a September course will go to the main CAM for that course as usual.
You can check the period slot of your module using the staff published timetable:

The example below shows the period slot for a January cohort - QGJ/S2

Alternatively, you can check the period slot for your module through this link (please note you will only be able to open this link on campus or through VPN: https://unitimetable.hud.ac.uk/sws2425/default.aspx
As well as the intended benefit to students completing earlier refer and defer work, we hope that this change in practice will alleviate some of the pressure of assessments and marking for staff during the main CAM periods.
