Places Remaining - Leadership Development Opportunities for Researchers
Leadership development opportunities for researchers (October 2024)
Research leadership is a valuable skill and we’re pleased to announce that we have places available on two programmes for researchers from Advance HE in Autumn 2024:
Research Team Leadership programme
- Aimed at anyone new to leading a small research team or recently appointed as a Principal Investigator.
- Taking place on campus on Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 October 2024 – you will need to be available to attend 9-5pm on both days.
- A practical and participative 2-day programme, designed to develop the skills and confidence of new research team leaders. Participants will discover how to build and lead a research team, run effective research team meetings, support individual researchers, and develop in their role as a team leader.
- Interested? Please complete the RTL application form and we’ll be in touch.
Feedback from participants who attended last year included “This was the best course I have ever attended.”, “Very well run, great activities that really demonstrated team dynamics and leadership skills”, “It was great to meet other people from different areas”. And “Would recommend - genuinely useful early/mid career development activity”.
Principal Investigator leadership development programme
- Aimed at experienced PIs/senior researchers.
- Taking place on campus on Thursday 17, Friday 18, Thursday 24 and Friday 25 October 2024 – you will need to be available to attend 10-3pm on all four days.
- A programme to support senior researchers to reflect on the nature of leadership within their contexts, deepen their understanding of the complexities of leadership and enhance their leadership effectiveness. It will provide some practical ideas and tools, drawing upon participants' collective expertise to enhance learning through discussion and collaborative enquiry.
- Structured around four modules: leadership transitions, leading diverse teams, reflections on being effective, and strategic research leadership.
- Interested? Please complete the PILD application form and we’ll be in touch.
Feedback from participants who attended last year included “I think taking time to reflect on leadership was particularly useful”, “The trainers had a wealth of knowledge”, “Collaborative tasks helped us share our experiences and exchange thoughts and suggestions” and “This was a fantastic programme that I have already recommended to two colleagues.”
Short workshops during October
Reflections for Researchers
Our monthly ‘Reflections for Researchers’ sessions start again in September, providing space and time for researchers to undertake individual reflection in a supportive group environment.
Colleagues are welcome to attend regularly to support their reflective practice, or join as a one-off. Each session will focus on a different ‘lens’ for reflection, with prompts provided.
The next session (online) will take place 3-4pm on 26 September 2024. Book your place
Picture this: your research career
This session invites you to use collage as a creative approach to thinking about your research career. Take the opportunity to step away from your usual workspace, do something different, slow down and get a new perspective on the question ‘what do I want from my research career?’ Explore your purpose, what matters, what you need and what you are looking for from your career – and connect with other researchers in the room who are also thinking about this. No previous experience or artistic skills required!
In-person sessions will take place 10-12pm on 8 October and 5 November 2024. Book your place
Research Funding series
These lunchtime sessions focus on different aspects of research funding - colleagues are welcome to book for a single session or the full series. The series will inform researchers about the various stages of obtaining funding for their research and managing successful awards.
1) Developing a Research Idea or Question | 2 Oct 2024
