Men’s Health Awareness Month
Here at the University, we are dedicated to ensuring that the men in our lives know about the support and resources available to them
Learn more below about Movember and an upcoming session with Andy’s Man Club, set for the new year. The Staff Wellbeing Team are also eager to hear from all colleagues on the topic of men’s health and wellbeing. Are we doing enough to support men in the workplace? How can we better support men in crisis, and what additional resources should we be offering? We value your input! Please email your comments and suggestions to staff.wellbeing@hud.ac.uk or share your feedback with your local Wellbeing Champion.
Movember
The Movember movement highlights a pressing issue: men's health is in crisis. Men are living on average, five years fewer than women, often due to preventable causes. Today, around 10.8 million men are living with prostate cancer globally, while testicular cancer remains the most common cancer among young men. Tragically, a man dies by suicide every minute, with men accounting for 69% of all suicides.
Movember tackles these issues on a global scale, funding innovative projects and connecting with men to drive positive change.
To learn more or find support, visit the Movember website, where you can also explore real stories from men affected by these challenges.
Andy’s Man Club
Andy’s Man Club is a men’s mental health organisation dedicated to breaking the stigma around male mental health by providing a safe, supportive environment where men can come together, talk openly, and find support. Established in 2016, Andy’s Man Club was inspired by the tragic loss of Andy Roberts to suicide, with a mission to ensure that men know they don’t have to struggle alone.
Since then, Andy’s Man Club has grown rapidly, with support groups held every Monday evening across the UK. These groups are free, non-judgmental spaces where men of all backgrounds can share their thoughts and experiences in a safe, welcoming setting. Attendees often share that the meetings provide relief and camaraderie, helping them open up about challenges they might have been carrying in silence.

We are excited to announce that on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, from 12:15 to 1:00pm, Richard Bonnor from Andy’s Man Club will be joining us for an impactful talk. Richard will discuss the vital role of open conversations, share the inspiring story behind Andy’s Man Club, introduce the people who make it all happen, and explain how to access their services. This informative session is open to everyone—not just men—who wants to learn more about supporting men’s mental health and raising awareness. Together, we can help make a difference for those who may be quietly struggling.
