Opportunity to Influence Future Rail Seat Comfort – Volunteers Required
The University of Huddersfield’s Institute of Railway Research (IRR) is working with industry and academic partners, Spinks Ltd and the University of Central Lancashire, to develop coil-sprung rail vehicle seats as an alternative to the current foam filled seats, with the aim of improving seat comfort for UK rail passengers.
We are seeking volunteers willing to spend approximately two hours 'traveling' in our rail vehicle motion simulator, evaluating seat comfort at various stages of the journey. During the session, volunteers will have an IMU sensor attached to their skin using hypoallergenic double-sided adhesive tape placed over the sternum, just below the jugular notch.
The simulator is based in our labs in the Laura Annie Willson Building (LW) - University of Huddersfield. To ensure inclusivity, we are looking for a wide range of participants in terms of size, shape, age, gender and ethnicity to take part in the research study.
Research sessions will be conducted between 16 - 19 July 2024.
Staff, students, friends, family and local community are welcome. For University staff, please check with your line manager if taking part during working hours.
Participants in the study will be rewarded with a £50 Amazon Gift card.
If you are interested in helping with our study, please email irr.info@hud.ac.uk . Remember to include:
1. Dates between 16 - 19 July when you are / aren’t available.
2. Age range (e.g. 20 to 30, 50 to 60 etc.).
3. Gender and Ethnicity
4. Weight and height
We look forward to hearing from you!
