Interested in finding out more about field recordings and having a go at making your own? Join us for a two-part course, expertly led by sound artist Jo Kennedy.
Week 1: This workshop will involve a mix of practical work out and about in Huddersfield with recording devices and a range of microphones, combined with some theory and technical information aimed at ensuring you can make high quality audio recordings.
Week 2: This workshop will review our field recordings and consider how we might work creatively with them, introducing how to edit and manipulate audio material within a DAW (digital audio workstation) to make soundscapes. We will be using a DAW called Reaper but the audio principles and techniques covered will be applicable whichever DAW you choose to work in. No previous experience of using a DAW is necessary as this session offers an introduction.
All equipment will be provided.
Working across audio and environmentalism, Jo Kennedy is interested in projects that connect people with nature and their local environment. She is a co-director at Yorkshire Sound Women Network and produces a podcast called Nature Tripping.
