Office of Health and Safety - Spring Newsletter
Hello and welcome to the new term. We hope you had a very restful and safe break.
There has been a lot going on in health and safety over the past few months and we thought it was a good time to give everyone a few pointers and links to important documents.
In this issue, we will discuss
- Fire marshal and warden roles
- Safe use of kitchen equipment
- PEEPS
- Incident reporting
- Defibrillators
Fire marshal and warden roles
It’s really important that we all keep each other safe in a fire evacuation.
Here is a reminder of the marshal/warden roles. Any member of staff needs to take on the role – we can’t rely on a few volunteers – we can’t guarantee who will be in the building. More information can be found here.
Safe use of kitchen equipment
Lots of us love a cuppa, but we need to be careful when we are using kettles, microwaves and toasters whilst at work. Find out more here.
So what is a staff PEEP, take a look and see!
In an emergency evacuation scenario staff with limited mobility or other disability that could affect the escape process need to have a plan. Guidance and proformas are available to help with the process. Forms and checklists - University of Huddersfield
Incident reporting
The incident reporting system has changed. It is now accessed by anybody using this link. Incident Report - Huddersfield University
Where is my nearest defibrillator?
Did you know that we have nine defibrillators on our campus? Anybody can use a defibrillator when it is needed (they are automatic and give voice instructions). It won’t cause any harm when used on a patient showing signs of a heart attack and it may save their life. Call 999 and the ambulance service will stay with you on the phone. There is a list of where they are located on our first aid page. First aid - University of Huddersfield
