What is Stephen Lawrence Day, and why is it marked?

At just 18, Stephen Lawrence was murdered in an unprovoked racist attack in 1993. No convictions were initially made, which sparked a significant public inquiry, resulting in the Macpherson Report. This report caused substantial changes in British criminal justice, law enforcement, and societal attitudes towards racism, discrimination, and equalities legislation, leaving a lasting impact on British society.

The Stephen Lawrence foundation and Stephen Lawrence Day were founded to inspire a more equitable and inclusive society, fostering opportunities for marginalised young people in the UK, all in Stephen's memory.
