National Eye Health Week – Monday 18th to Sunday 24th September 2023
How healthy are your eyes? Sight is the sense we fear losing the most, yet many of us don’t know how to look after our eyes. Top tips for keeping your eyes healthy include:
- Eating well
- Not smoking
- Wearing eye protection in bright sunlight
- Having regular eye tests (for most people every 2 years). The University offers free Sight Tests for Staff who are DSE (Computer) Users. To obtain a free sight test voucher please complete the Eye voucher request form and email this to health@hud.ac.uk
- Take frequent screen breaks and use the 20, 20, 20 rule. Every 20 minutes look away from your screen at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds
- Ensure the lighting in your office space is adequate for your tasks and avoid screen glare
- Ensure you do a Display Screen Equipment (DSE) self-assessment every 2 years or after any changes to your workspace. You can find the template for the DSE self-assessment here.
