Law lecturer discusses Ukraine war live on Italian TV

On Sunday 10 September, Giovanni Chiarini, Lecturer in Law and module leader in International Criminal Law at the University of Huddersfield as well as attorney admitted to the International Criminal Court list in The Hague, appeared on live on the television La7, one of the most-watched TV programs in Italy for international politics and related topics, to talk about international criminal justice. 

During the 90-minute live program, Dr Chiarini was interviewed on four principal issues: 1) the warrant of arrest of President Putin and the procedural issues arising from that warrant; 2) the indictments regarding President Putin; 3) the possibility to establish a special tribunal for the crime of aggression; 4) the possibility to prosecute Russian high-ranked officials for the crimes committed by the mercenary group "Wagner". The other guests were a Georgian Major General and a former NATO Colonel.

Dr Chiarini joined the University of Huddersfield in June 2023. He is also an International Fellow of the National Institute of Military Justice in Washington D.C.
