The National Day for Staff Networks 2023 is taking place on Wednesday 10th May and will be the seventh time it has been celebrated in recognition of the fantastic contribution of staff networks. The University of Huddersfield is proud to celebrate and support our staff networks today and every day.
The University is currently home to 4 active staff networks:
- Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans, Queer and Intersex + (LGBTQI+) Staff Network
- Black, Asian & Minority Ethnic Staff Network
- Women’s Staff Network
- Staff Disability Network
The National Day for Staff Networks is all about celebrating and acknowledging the added value networks bring to the workplace. Staff networks help support and empower staff who are often minoritised and marginalised, offering support and guidance both in and out of the workplace. They can also offer opportunities for staff to inform university policy on equality-related issues and topics.
They are an effective mechanism of workforce engagement that can provide insight into unseen barriers and devise creative and practical solutions to help address the systemic challenges faced by certain groups. The theme this year is #StayingStrong, in #StayingStrong, networks can focus on three areas:
Wellbeing: What can leaders do to stay strong and support the wellbeing of their members?
Allyship: As allies and advocates, what can you do to help the network #StayStrong
Sustainability: How do we support networks in their sustainable development?
On Wednesday 10th May, some of the chairs and members of our staff networks will be in the Atrium (level 4 of the Schwann Building) between 12:30pm and 1:30pm. Everyone is invited to come and visit the stall, ask questions, and potentially join a network and meet new people! You do not have to identify with the characteristics of the networks to attend, you may be interested in attending as an ally or just want to find out more about their work.
