The Annual Harold Wilson Lecture – Sir John Major

This popular annual lecture will this year be delivered by Sir John Major, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom 1990 – 1997.

In our country we view democracy as the natural order of life. We should not. In many parts of the world democracy is in decline as autocracy grows.

Over many centuries, our nation fought battles, killed a King and faced demonstrations and campaigns before it gained a true democracy and, if it slumbers now, we may lose something very precious.

In this lecture, Sir John Major sets out the warning signs, the risks and suggests some safeguards.
