Cost of Living Support Measures for Students

A range of advice and guidance is available on the student Cost of Living Support webpages. These webpages are signposted through a permanent promotional tile on MyHud that students browse past when they access timetables, Brightspace and emails via MyHud. The pages promote and include:

·         A Half Million pound Hardship Fund:  The University has increased the fund by £120,000, making over half a million pounds of targeted support available to students. To the end of November over 200 students have received financial support.

·         A daily £1.99 hot meal deal:   Alongside existing catering offers, a choice of two daily £1.99 hot meals will be served from level five of Student Central Monday to Friday. There will always be one vegetarian and one vegan option.  Launching on 5th December it adds to existing offers that include beans or egg on toast from £1.35 and a daily five items breakfasts (plus drink) at £3.85.

·         Signposting of value meals: Catering Services are producing signposting to the value meals that can be purchased on campus, indicating which catering outlets these can be obtained from. This will be displayed on plasma screens on Student Central Level 4, other screens around campus and advertised on social media.

·         Too Good to Go: Catering Services and the Student Union Shop have introduced Too Good to Go, a phone app where students can purchase unwanted food at discount prices.

·         Microwaves and Hot water:  Schools and the Students’ Union have checked their hot water and microwave provision in lounges, kitchens and common rooms.   Local signposting and promotion to students is in in place close to these services. Development of additional signposting is in progress.

·         Free Social Sport Sessions: A range of free and low-cost social sports sessions are on offer every day of the week.  Details can be found here.

·         Open Buildings and Warm Spaces:  Social, group work and study space are detailed in our student zones and library.

·         The Huddersfield Scholarship provides a £1000 cash bursary:  To qualifying UK undergraduate students in their first year of study. Students don’t need to apply as the University establishes eligibility based on family income, UCAS points and course. Qualifying students will receive their award in February 2023 providing additional income during term two. Full details are here.
