CPT’s Rising Star

Younes Chahid, a PhD Researcher in the Centre of Precision Technologies, has recently been featured in the March edition of the IMechE magazine ‘Professional Engineering’ as one of the rising stars of engineering.

Younes, who is researching a PhD on the metrology of 3D printed lattice structures, was born in Morocco and came to the University of Huddersfield to complete a BEng in Mechanical Engineering in 2015.  During his placement year with Halifax-based company AAM, Younes set up a 3D Printing Society at the University. The society made the news in 2017 when they produced a prosthetic hand for a 10-year-old girl Huddersfield Examiner Following the success of the society, which has won the Student Union’s best society prize two years running, Younes, along with colleagues from the University of Huddersfield and the University of Cambridge, founded the National 3D Printing Society.  Younes has ambitions to go global with the society to raise awareness of the possibilities of this fast-growing technology.

Younes is passionate about 3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing, and the potential it presents across a wide range of practical applications in manufacturing and medical industries.  He is so passionate in fact, that, in addition to his PhD research and running the 3D printing societies, he designs and creates 3D printed jewellery in his spare time!
