Jon was also recently awarded a 'British Empire Medal' in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list in recognition for his outstanding services to music education. As well as these awards, Jon recieved The IAJE (International Association of Jazz Educators) for outstanding services to Jazz Education in 2005, 2006 and 2009, he was also awarded The JEN (Jazz Education Network) for Outstanding Jazz Performance in 2016 and 2018. Jon is keen to use his awards to promote the value of music among the lives of all young people.

“Music has the power to make the world a better place, it is the universal language which enriches and engages people from all corners of society. I am delighted to be receiving this award, but really, it should be for all of the wonderful students that make up the Hot House musical family. They are the future.”

Jon is CEO of Hot House Music which delivers an international award-winning programme of services to young people across the UK. Founded in 2002 in Derby, Hot House Music is one of the most highly respected educational organisations in the global marketplace, performing to 120,000 live last year. With over 20,000 students, Hot House Music has schools across the UK and international headquarters in Singapore. Their alumni go on to lead in each of their specialist chosen fields, whether as the drummer for Noel Gallagher or Paloma Faith, or the chief legal counsel for the Paralympic committee, they are exceptionally proud of their time with Hot House and continue to fly the flag for '#inspirationalyouthmusic' wherever they go.

Jon studied BMus (Hons) in 1994-1996, speaking about his time at the University: "The opportunities and experiences afforded to me whilst engaging with life at the University serve to guide and balance my work and ethics today. I am who I am because of Huddersfield University."

As well as his CEO role, Jon is also an inspirational public speaker and author that relishes the opportunity to empower young people.

"I do not want or expect students to follow music professionally," he said. "All I want them to do is to benefit from the gifts of music: agile minds, awareness of others and joy."
