University of Huddersfield academic Dr Kofi Asare-Addo has been appointed as the next Chair of professional membership body, the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences (APS).

Dr Asare-Addo, a Reader in Pharmaceutics and Admission Tutor for Pharmacy (MPharm), will take over the role in January 2026 for a two-year period.

Of the honour, he commented: “I was introduced to the APS as a PhD researcher by my supervisor many years ago. I have since engaged with and enjoyed many of its activities, including the annual PharmSci Conferences.

“As an academic, it is a real honour to be in the position to lead this great organisation with the excellent board, advisory board and focus group leaders. The board has had a history of great chairs, and I am therefore humbled to be in such a position and look forward to building on the fantastic work by the three previous chairs in Jo Craig, Hannah Batchelor and Ryan Donnelly that I’ve had the privilege of working with.”

He added that he was particularly proud of work the Board is doing to create a Student Association branch of the Academy targeting the needs of undergraduates with plans to introduce a yearly flagship event.

The APS is the UK-based professional membership body for Pharmaceutical Scientists, experts in the research, development and manufacture of medicines. It represents individuals and organisations worldwide throughout the sector.

This is the Academy’s highest award to members in recognition of their contribution, accomplishment and impact within Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Of Dr Asare-Addo’s appointment as incoming Chair, Professor Conway commented: “The APS partners with professionals and organisations globally to drive innovation and excellence in pharmaceutical science. We are delighted that the Academy has appointed Kofi to this key role, recognising his dedication to pharmaceutical sciences and working in partnership. His leadership will ensure that our work continues to thrive and make a lasting impact.”
