School of Computing and Engineering reprises Inaugural Lectures

The University’s School of Computing and Engineering is reprising its Inaugural Lecture series, with expert in Cyber Security, Professor Simon Parkinson, in the spotlight.
Professor Parkinson is a long-standing Professor of Cyber Security at the University of Huddersfield, a member of the UK Government’s Cyber Security Advisory Board, and Director of the University’s Centre for Cyber Security.
His research interests span cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, with a particular focus on identity, access, and attack detection.
Entitled Securing the Future: A journey of data-driven research in safety and security, the Inaugural Lecture will see Professor Parkinson share his personal journey over the past decade, conducting data-driven research in safety and cyber security.
He will offer insights from pioneering work at the intersection of technology, safety, and cyber resilience.
Protecting systems and combating threats to shaping policy and raising public awareness, the lecture will explore how data and artificial intelligence are transforming our understanding of security and safety risks.
Professor Parkinson commented: “The cyber threat landscape evolves quickly, and effective protection demands both rigorous research and practical application. Drawing on work here at Huddersfield and collaborations with government and industry, I’ll explore what works, what doesn’t, and where the new breakthroughs may come from. I look forward to engaging with colleagues, students, and the public in conversation about securing the systems and services that underpin our daily lives.”
